Softball jumps divisions in successful season

The Samo girls’ softball team ended their season and CIF competition after losing to Camarillo High school on May 25. This concludes an undefeated league season. Coach Kalie Nakao (’11) is happy with how far they got, even if they didn’t make it all the way.“[I am] very proud of the girls for how far they came this season,” Nakao said. “Before the last loss, we had a 16 game win streak, so they were doing very well.”The team performed well this year, jumping two divisions in the league listings and winning the El Segundo tournament. Nakao credited that success in big part to the team’s seniors.“The girls were more focused and experienced from the year before.” Nakao said. “We had great senior leaders to keep the girls focused and kept reminding them of their goals the whole year.”One of those seniors, Kenedee Jamerson (’17), was incredibly proud of her team this season. “I feel like my team played amazingly this year,” Jamerson said. “We worked hard and we didn’t let anything hold us back.” Jamerson felt that through her years on the Samo team, her greatest improvement has been her confidence.  “Everytime I play for my high school team I become more unstoppable,” Jamerson said.  “Understanding that it was my last year and I needed to go out playing hard pushed me to do my best.”  As one of the team’s outgoing players, Jamerson had a message to next year’s team. “For any incoming varsity players, I would say just stay confident in yourself, but also keep the love for the game strong,” Jamerson said. “Don’t let anyone discourage you from loving the game no matter how hard it gets.”
