Boys’ Golf puts to victory

The Samo varsity boys’ golf team will begin their season on March 1. Though the team is small—comprised of only six members—the golfers on the team are determined to play a successful season.

Because Samo does not have a golfing green, student golfers practice at the Rancho Park Golf Course on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays;  they practice at the Penmar Golf Course on Fridays. Being on the team requires commitment and flexibility, as training is carried out remotely.

Last season, boys’ golf finished their season with intensity and was able to place 10th at championships. Golfer Vincent Gormley (’24) was able to go further and placed fifth in the Bay League Finals. Similarly, Gormley along with Jaxson Tagawa (’22) and Christopher Kozusko (’24) made the first team league.

This season, the team is anticipating tough competition. In previous years, Boys’ Golf Coach Barton Burdick expressed that the league that Samo competes in is typically very tough. Even so, Burdick has ambitious goals for the upcoming months.

“We have a very talented team and are a very competitive squad. Our goal is to win the Bay League title and to compete at team and individual championships,” Burdick said.

With newcomers on boys’ golf, members hope that the preparation and practice done during their off-season will be rewarding during the spring. Burdick is confident that they will qualify in individual championships and team finals.
