On Wed. March 8, the Samo boys’ varsity tennis team won their match against Palisades Charter High School. In a game composed of both singles and doubles matches, Samo won ten out of 18 matches.

Doubles team Lincoln Jarvis (’23) and Peter Jarvis (’25) won two out of their three matches and they were joined by team Cole Thompson (’22) and David Zhao (’24), who also won two out of their three matches.

As for the singles’ matches, Vincent Cheng (’25) defeated all three of his opponents with some impressive scores. He beat two of his opponents with a score of six to zero. Grayson Finch (’22) shared his enthusiasm for the progression of the season.

“The season is going great, we have high spirits,” Finch said.

Colin Swimmer (’23) had an unfortunate injury and has not been able to participate in the season yet. However, he expressed that his first year on varsity has been a great experience.

“They’ve been super welcoming and I just love the energy out here,” Swimmer said.

Although this game was a non-league game, Samo still tried their hardest and really showed off their skills during the match.

On Thurs. March 17, the Samo’s boys’ varsity tennis team had an unfortunate loss against Peninsula High School. After hours of playing, the final score was 4-14.

Singles’ player Simon Catanzaro (’25) had a great match and won two out of his three matches. Vincent Cheng (’25) also did great by winning two out of his three matches.

The doubles’ teams unfortunately did not have their best game and none of them one a match.

The team has been doing pretty well in playing and winning against other teams in the league who they might not have been able to compete against in previous years. Team captain Cole Thompson (’22) is proud of the team’s progress in the new league, but he still believes there is room for improvement, especially in the doubles’ matches.

“We have been working hard to make good pairs, but the majority of our points are still from single [matches],” Thompson said.

As the season’s end approaches, Thompson has faith in the team’s skills.

“I really feel like we have a shot at making our name this year,” Thompson said.
