On March 19, the Samo track and field team hosted an invitational meet. Track teams from Beverly Hills, Geffen Academy, Hawthorne, Crossroads, New Roads, New West Charter, St. Marys Academy, St. Monica, Venice and Wildwood attended the meet. During the 100 meter finals, Samo’s Dylan Hanvey (’23) and Gus Reymond (’23) placed second and third. The crowd was very excited when Clair Kovac (’23) and Scarlett Tropea-Lester (’23) finished first and second place in the 800-meter finals. Both Kovac and Tropea Lester broke their personal records during this race; Kovac timed 2:31 with Tropea-Lester right behind her at 2:32. Scarlett Tropea-Lester shared her experience during the meet.

“The meet environment was super great because a lot of my teammates got their personal records and I had tons of fun competing in the same race as other Samo girls because we pushed each other to our limits!” Tropea-Lester said.

Another highlight was the 1600 meter race in which Joseph Hover (’22), Max Freidman (’23), Colin McCormick (’23) and Kain Zeoli (’23) all placed within the top 4. Hover, Friedman and McCormick all broke their personal records. Women’s varsity also did well in the 1600 meter finals. Cleo Topp (’25) Pheobe Benun (’25), Kim Hansen (’22) and Stephanie Garcia (’22) placed first through fourth.
