ASB hosts Welcome Back Dance
Pounding music, flashing lights and Samo students filled the typically empty Greek amphitheater on the first Friday night of school to kick off the new 2016-17 school year with music, friends and dancing. Hosted by ASB members, the dance featured a DJ, refreshments and Hawaiian decorations to match the Aloha theme. Spirit-filled Samo students came to the dance decked out in Hawaiian attire to celebrate the end of the first week of school. Many students of all grades came to join in on the back to school bash. An abundant amount of seniors attended the dance to mark the beginning of the end to their high school careers. The dance floor was flooded with bright lights and dancing students, occupying the stairs and stage of the Greek.Ben Segal (’17) was enthusiastic about celebrating at the dance as a way to commence his senior year at Samo. Segal spent his time at the dance in the middle of the Greek, surrounded by friends and fellow classmates, as they danced to the beat of the music.“There’s so much school spirit,” Segal, who has attended an large amount of previous school dances, said. “This [dance] is a great way to start the best year I’ve ever had,”. Students all around Samo agreed the dance was a fun way to spend a Friday night with friends. Julia Engfer (’17) enjoyed dancing with her friends as she sported a Hawaiian shirt, accessorized with a lei.“It’s a good experience for bonding,” Engfer said. “[It is a] good way to loosen people up.” The large amount of students that attended made the welcome back dance a successful fundraiser for Samo. The great turnout will in turn continue the tradition of an annual Welcome Back Dance.
