ASB application changes
Recently the students of Samo’s ASB have begun to make changes that will go into effect next school year. From application changes to eliminating the House Representative position, members of ASB are hoping to improve productivity and efficiency in classes to come.“The current class has decided to condense the commissioner positions into just two groups; Viking Outreach and Viking Pride. In addition, a student must first apply and get into the class before being able to run for a Class Council or Executive Board Position,” ASB advisor Bryn Boyd and ASB members Briana Gomez (’17) and Jessica Ramirez (’17) wrote.ASB is trying to make sure that everyone is able to be involved at every event and school activity. This issue was particularly prominent with the House Representative position. “The issue of not having enough in-class responsibilities throughout the year has prompted the decision of removing the House Representative positions. However, our focus is to increase outside student involvement within the House Advisories for those who are not in ASB but are still interested [in making a difference at Samo],” Boyd said. The purpose of these modifications are to maintain a high work ethic within the ASB class. “The changes are made to ensure that everyone in ASB is organized and has a job to do. The class voted for these changes to limit the amount of lazy students who are voted in and increased the amount of hard workers that actually want to make a change,” ASB member Bridget Handley (’19) said. Looking at the bigger picture, ASB hopes that taking these steps to improve their class will end up improving life at Samo. “If every student in ASB is working, everything will get done faster. Funding will increase, dances will be put together better and rallies will have a better attitude,” Handley said. All in all, ASB intends to create a class of students that will work tirelessly to keep making Samo better and better. By integrating in the same system that is used in almost all of the other schools within our district, ASB hopes to see results within their class and around school. “Our goal is to create a well-rounded and diverse group that is motivated and works as one unified student body to make Samohi a powerhouse,” Boyd said.
