ASB changes election process

With a new method of casting votes and presenting candidate speeches, Associated Student Body (ASB) elections were held Tuesday, Feb. 24.Speeches were presented to each grade separately in Barnum Hall, as opposed to previous elections which were held in the Greek.  While last year’s election results were tallied electronically, elections this year featured physical ballot boxes where students would cast their vote.According to ASB advisor Bryn Boyd, there were reasons behind the changes in schedule and procedure of the elections. It allowed for ASB to organize camps over the summer with new members, and it helps facilitate students’ schedule-planning next year. There were also numerous restrictions as to how the candidates could hold their campaigns, as they were limited to posting only two posters per bulletin board and publicizing on social media was not allowed, according to current ASB President Brian Matusovsky.“The limit on social media is because some people don’t have social media, and we don’t want to put them in a disadvantage,” Matusovsky  said. “There is also a $100 limit on campaign materials and posters so that nobody has a major advantage in election materials due to family resources and spendable money.” Election results for upcoming 2014-2014 ASB boardPresident: Dean ChienVice-President: Alex SpanosSecretary: Brandon Hall-PascascioTreasurer: Evan HiltunenJunior Representatives: Fiona Story, Dylan PatelSophomore Representatives: Gracie Fletcher, Hannah SabeSenior Representatives: Leilani Reynoso, Yahn Bruggeman
