First Club Day of the Year 2016-2017

On Friday, Oct. 21, hundreds of students from all grades gathered in the Innovation Quad to partake in Club Day. Club Day is an event put together by the Associated Student Body (ASB) which gives the clubs at Samohi a day to raise money for their club by selling an array of foods. According to Fiona Story ('17), lot’s of preparation went into putting together this event together.“I know ASB held numerous ICC meetings and had to coordinate the map, menu and had to get the table rentals” Story said. “They also had to make sure each club sold something different in order to have a good variety of foods there.”Many were satisfied with the food choices this club day. When compared to previous years, Bita Maknouni ('17) claimed that the food choices this year were one of the better ones she’s seen.“I thought it was pretty much the same, although it was a little better because of the food options this year,” Maknouni said. When comparing the positives and negatives of the event, Story had no problem acknowledging what did and did not work.“I think sending out the menu ahead of time worked well but I don’t think having In n Out at the front worked” Story said. “It blocked a lot of people from getting to see the other tables, and I wish the menu had been better advertised.”ASB looks forward to further improving the Club Day experience in future years. They plan on advertising and reminding students ahead of time to bring money the day of the event and publicize the menu more widely.“Leaving more space between clubs is vital.” Story said. “We plan on making a map of tables according to how popular each food has been in the past. We won’t be putting In-n-Out at the front again.”All in all, both ASB and the students of Samohi were satisfied with the event. Hundreds of dollars were raised and students walked out of the quad overjoyed with dense varieties of food on hand.“I think it was a success and many clubs sold all of their food items which was great,” Story said.
