I'll Grab my Coat and Go

Let me pack my things up, before I set out and leave.

I won’t be back for a long time, I won’t see the change of the leaves.

I’ll just grab my coat, beige and well worn in, my love was claimed by someone else, from the lost and found bin.

I learned to love, but failed the final.

My heart is a record, but she scratched the vinyl.

I took one step, out the front door.

The frozen pavement was slippery like a wet, marble floor.

I got in my car, darned thing wouldn’t start.

I told her if I could stay the night, I’d play my part.

She agreed, the lady did, I grabbed my coat, I settled in.

The guestroom was warm, a dog was in there.

I waited one day, then I waited the night.

She never asked if I was alright.

I’ll grab my coat and go, then I’ll set out and leave.

Her heart was once golden, but it changed like the leaves.
