Boys water polo defeats Pacific Palisades Charter High School
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, a battle commenced between Samo and Palisades High School’s (Pali) boys water polo teams. The game ended in a close 10-6 match, putting spectators and parents on edge the entire game. “We were doing ok the first half of the game but in the second half we really started pulling through,” Sebastian Zapatero (’19) said. In the first quarter of the game Samo ended three points ahead of Pali, boosting confidence into the players. This game was especially important for the greenies because not only were two of their starters injured but Pali also shares a water polo club with Santa Monica called Westside Aquatics. “The fact that we knew them really raised the stakes,” Alex Wang (’19) said. Even with the loss of 13 players, the team stayed in sync and used every player to their advantage. Although Pali tied the game 4-4 in the second quarter, Samo’s hard work and strategy pulled them ahead in the third and fourth quarter. “Even though we had two starters on the bench, we still did pretty good,” goalie Sunny Selak (’18) said. Overall, it was a close game that reflected the full potential and work ethic of the varsity greenies. Although, Sawyer Koetters [‘19] was given a red card and was suspended from two games.”I though the team played great and everyone contributed to the win,” Holden Hadfield (‘19) said.
