Football ends season with greater expectations
Samo’s football team has put a great amount of effort this year, with a final record of 4-6. This result was a major improvement from last year’s 0-10, and the team looks to improve even more next year. “The season was a big improvement from last year,” Varsity quarterback Dariush Sayson (’18) said. “The team was able to finally experience success.”The football team started very strong with an unexpected win against Compton High School, which lead to a streak of beating Dana Hills High School and South Torrance High School.“No matter the outcome of our games we looked forward because every game was on opportunity to win,” defensive tackle Elijah Moul (’18) said. “This season was so much better than our last. Not only with the amount of games we won, but the way we meshed as a team.” They did very well at home but they lacked the success at away games. Now that the season is over, they are focusing on improving their skills rather than dwell on their past mistakes. “I think this season was better than last season, but even though we were we need to play for each other rather than ourselves more,” JV quarterback Justin Platt (’18) said. According to coach Ramsey Lambert, the team met many of their goals that they set out to do in the spring and the leaders of the team set the foundation for Samo’s success. “With a lot of returning contributors coming back next year and a 8-2 frosh-soph record, we are poised to build on the success of 2016,” Lambert said. Coach Lambert was proud but not satisfied with the result of this year season. He has great hope for next year season and is confident in the players on frosh-soph. Lambert knows they are on the path of doing better and better every year.
