Football wins second game in a row against Dana Hills High School

On Friday Sept. 16,  Samo won their second football game in a row after a continuous losing streak from last season. Last week, in a close fashion, Samo beat Compton High School 34-31 and this week they faced Dana Hills High School with a final score of 52-36. “When I got injured in the second quarter and couldn’t play the rest of the game, our sophomore backup, Tee Barnes, stepped up and controlled the tempo of the team. The offense, Tony Dancy and Tony Holley played extremely well and turned their game up a few notches and together they ended up scoring 5 touchdowns,” Dariush Sayson (’18) said. “ I was confident we were gonna keep our momentum from that game and transfer it to next versus Dana Hills.” At the beginning of the first quarter, Dana Hills scored a touchdown with the extra point putting them in the lead 7-0. However, by the end of the quarter with less than two minutes left, Samo returned a kick, taking the play down to the 35 mark. Soon after, number 12, Dariush Sayson made the first touchdown of the game.“I felt it was the usual game from last year, and it was kinda disappointing I was hoping they would do better,” Cole Ginter (’19) said. Although Samo was losing they started to pick up the pace as they started gaining in points. By the end of the first quarter, Samo was losing 12-14 but with another touchdown made by number 21,  Beto De La Torre. Samo led 19-14 at the half. “It was hard work, it was all dedication and looking forward. And just getting out there and concentrating on what we needed to do,” number 25, Leo Reynoso (’18) said. At the start of the second half, Samo scored two consecutive touchdowns within the first five minutes and despite another two touchdowns from Dana Hills, Samo was in the lead 40-28 by the end of the third quarter.“[We] responded well to a couple big special teams’ plays with three different guys, so it was good to see those guys step up and see them actually go, then we could actually run the ball, once we settled down on defense,” coach Ramsey Lambert said. In the midst of the fourth quarter, Samo and Dana Hills battled it out touchdown by touchdown as both scores began to rise in points. By the end, with one minute left and Samo in the lead, number 12, Dariush Sayson scored the last touchdown, bringing the final score to 52-36.“We have this kinda montra actually we don’t see farther than the week we’re in. So we actually got to go 1-0, that's the goal we have. All we are looking forward too is now we are going to enjoy this for 48 hours and then we are looking at South Torrance to go 1-0 against them,” Lambert said.
