Girls soccer comes out on top for sixth consecutive win

A well-played match against Beverly Hills High School on Jan. 22 ended in another victory for the Samo girls soccer team. The first half was dominated by Samo’s great offensive players and the ball stayed primarily inside of Beverly's defensive half. Samo took multiple runs up the side of the field but for a long time, they struggled to finish their runs with the ball in the goal. Beverly made a few offensive runs in the first half but was quickly repelled by the Samo defense. Towards the middle of the first half, forward Chloe Kleinman (’16) made a beautiful pass from outside of the box to forward Dai Williams (’19) who took the ball, outmaneuvered the last defender and shot the ball into the bottom left of the net, marking the first goal of the game. After that, the ball went between both sides of the field, with Beverly desperate to make up for the lost goal, but in the last minutes of the game, Kleinman was again able to breakaway from Beverly's defence and score another goal in the top right side of the net, ending the first half with the Vikings up 2-0.The second half started out with Beverly coming in much more aggressive than in the first and they pressed Samo’s defensive back, but to no avail. Around the middle of the half, Samo’s offense was again able to break past Beverly’s defence and Williams was able to send a ball to mid-fielder Emma Encinas (’16), who was able to score a goal. The second half ended quickly with Beverly scoring a goal from outside the box to end the game 3-1 in a solid win for Samo. Head coach Jimmy Chapman was extremely happy about his team's performance.“This one of the best games I’ve seen our team play against a quality opponent,” Chapman said. “The new players that have come into the team are really starting to mesh and they are all working really well together. This is our sixth win now and I really can see this team taking us all the way to the end.”
