Girls soccer cruises to victory over Hawthorne

Another game ended with a successful win for the Samo girls soccer team on Wednesday, Jan. 13. They ended their game against the Hawthorne High School Cougars with a 3-0 win, marking this as their fourth win of the season and their second consecutive win.The game started out very fast paced and Samo immediately went on the offensive, fueled by their previous victory. They hammered away at Hawthorne's defensive back for a majority of the first half, with the ball staying primarily in the opponent's half of the field. Samo made multiple attempts on goal but to no avail until they finally scored into the the top right of the goal off of a deflected ball from the opposing goalie. At that point, Hawthorne's energy went down but their goalie was able to block the rest of the incoming shots on goal for the remainder of the the half. The half ended with Samo leading 1-0. The second half started out with just as much energy as the first and both teams were just as eager to win as the other. But eventually, Samo’s offensive front proved too much for Hawthorne's defensive back and the Vikings were able to score two more goals before the end of the game.Head coach Jimmy Chapman is very proud of his team's recent accomplishments and hopes for many more in the near future.“We always look to build and I believe we're peaking at just the right time in the season, these last two games are the best I've seen them play and I'm extremely proud of them,” Chapman said. “We also have a number of new players but I really believe we are starting to really come together as a team.”The girls will play at home versus Beverly Hills on Friday, Jan. 22.
