Girls soccer takes another win against Windward
On Tuesday, Dec. 6, the Samo girls soccer team won their second game of the season against Windward High School, 5-0. The girls are continuing their reign of dominance which was displayed in their previous game against Malibu High School. During the first half of the game Samo started off very strong. They had constant possession of the ball and were consistently pressuring the Windward players, causing them to fumble and turnover the ball frequently. Forward Maggie Lena (’17) scored four goals in the first half along side with midfielder Lea Yamashiro (’19) who scored one.“For the first goal, I got a through ball down the left side flank and cut in towards the goal, beat my opponent in a one versus one and scored in the bottom right corner,” said Lena. “The other goals were made by a through ball in which I ran on to. For one of them I made a diagonal run across the field and beat the keeper, for another I drilled and shot over the keeper from outside the box.”In the second half of the game, Lena picked up an additional two goals, securing the win for Samo but this didn’t discourage the Windward players. Towards the end of the second half, Windward did a good job in pressing the Samo players who were playing more conservatively. The managed to fire off some shots at Samo’s net, but were unsuccessful in their attempts. “We had no expectations going into the game against Windward because we had never played them before,” said Lena. “We just focused on our system of play.”Overall, Samo played a competitive match and hope to continue their success as they progress throughout the season.
