Girls tennis ends season with a loss in CIF

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, the girls lost to Vista Murrieta High School in their CIF playoffs with a final score of 5-13, ending their season with an overall record of 6-5-0.Coach Wilston Poon stated that although they lost before making it to the finals, making it to the semi-finals was an impressive accomplishment in its own right.“We lost in our playoff game,” Poon said. “We started of really well, but because our team was shorthanded that day we just couldn't keep our lead. Overall, we played really well in both our doubles and singles matches, but they had a slight edge on us.”Mina Rivera (’18) explained that the matches went back and forth, but in the end it was the exhaustion that made the difference between winning and losing.“A few of the matches really could've gone either way,” Rivera said. “But they just swung in their favor after a players started playing more matches than they were used to playing in a game.”Coach Poon has high hopes for next season and is proud of his teams achievements this year.“The girls are down with the season but they did really well and should be proud of their achievement of making it as far as they did as I am,” Poon said. “We will learn from our mistakes and will be much better next year and have hopes to win the CIF championships.”
