Girls water polo beats Redondo 11-3 in home opener

The girls water polo team beat Redondo Union High School in their first season game on Dec. 2, with a final score of 11-3.Samo’s defense was a key factor in their victory as their tight pressure on the Redondo players prevented them from taking too many shots on goal.It wasn’t until the end of the game that Redondo started to make a comeback as they scored three goals in the fourth quarter. However, by that time it was already too late, as the Lady Vikings already had a 8 goal advantage on them. Their solid defense and strategic offense helped them end their first game of the season 11-3.According to Alissa Hattori (’17), beating Redondo is a reassurance for the league games.“I feel pretty confident,” said Hattori. “Redondo is better than all the teams in our league, so if we can beat them, we can beat everyone else.”The girls water polo team has worked hard to get where they are, and according to Hattori, the team has has been able to improve a lot.“This game showed how much we have improved over the last year, since we lost to Redondo by 4 last year,” Hattori said. “I feel great going into this season.”With the motivation and ambition to grasp a CIF title this year the girls water polo team is prepared to dive head-first into the season, and have a successful year.
