Girls water polo defeats Vista Murrieta in first CIF game

On Feb. 16, the girls water polo team defeated Vista Murrieta High School with an end score of 15-8. The girls were nervous as they began the first quarter, but once they got over their nerves, they quickly and easily took the lead against their opponent.“The other team was known for two girls that were considered dangerous on offense, so we knew we had to focus on those two,” Shanna Stevenson (’17) said. “Everyone was very anxious at first because it was the first CIF game but as soon as we started playing the nerves calmed down and we all knew we could beat this team.”By the third quarter the team had a massive lead on Vista Murrieta with a score of 12-5.“Our offense was relentless with their attack and made shot after shot,” goalie Amalie Lueng-Solli  (’17) said. “Our defense didn't let anything by either, we played great early on and kept doing so, the other team never had a chance to recover.”Coach Matthew Flanders expressed concern early on in the game and worried that his team wasn't ready. However, he was proven wrong, after this game and is confident that the team will be able to move along in CIF.“I think we had a pretty easy league season and I was concerned they wouldn't be ready for CIF,” Flanders said. “But they really showed that they can handle this, they played a great game against a opponent known to be good. I’m very happy with the victory.”
