Samo extends undefeated season against Downey

Samo's boys lacrosse once again proved their dominance as they beat Downey High School on March 24 with a large lead of 19-3. The team started out very strong, scoring seven goals at the beginning of the first quarter. The first quarter finished 8-0 thanks to a late goal by Parker Furlong (’17).However, early in the second quarter, Downey was able to get a goal back. Samo, who had clearly understood the rest of the game would be a walk in the park, did not panic and even managed to consolidate their advantage by scoring three more goals before halftime. Downey made the score 11-2 just before the half. “We had momentum on offense from the start of the game which helped us a lot,” Kyle Atwater (’18) said. The second half began at a slower pace. But a couple minutes in, Samo went on a true goal rampage; in a couple of minutes, the team scored five quick goals. Kyle Kennedy (’17) concluded the quarter with a goal. “We were able to score a lot of goals because we work together as a team and our offense is amazing,” Ryan Lai (’19) said. “We were all focused and made smart plays.”The rest of the game was clearly less intense as Downey realized there would be no way they could come back while Samo figured the win was theirs. Halfway through the quarter, Samo made it 18-2. Downey managed to score their last goal which was immediately followed by a beautiful solo goal by Jack Hall (’17).This most recent win along with an away win against Culver City extends the Lacrosse team’s undefeated season to 10 wins. It seems like this could be the year Samo could win the Ocean League.
