A hard fought match against Beverly Hills ends in a win

Despite Samo's girls tennis tough loss so early in the season, they won a hard fought match against Beverly Hills High School on Thursday, Oct. 6, with an end score of 12-6.According to coach Wilston Poon, the team did great and really excelled in their doubles matches, which in turn allowed them to beat Beverly. Although he did find the performance of the single matches somewhat lacking, he found that the overall team's attitude and performance was superb.“We performed great and only loss one doubles match,” Poon said. “Our singles did pretty well overall but I’d really believe that they could get a few more wins. If they keep up at this rate there's no doubt they will beat beverly again in a few weeks.”Single match player Mina Rivera (‘17) agrees with the coaches assessment of the game and additionally noticed the high levels of maturity and sportsmanship not only coming from herself but her teammates as well.“As a team, we did a fantastic job," Rivera said. "We had fun and worked hard. Doubles did an outstanding job with fulfilling their goal to win every match that game and we all maintained our school spirit. We were very sports like when playing our school rivals even though you could feel the tension and pressure when we were playing.”The team is now looking forward and preparing for their next match on Oct. 11 against El Segundo High School.
