Educate yourself with Netflix's "Sex Education"

Rating: 4.5/5The new Netflix show "Sex Education" is a phenomenal portrayal of confusion, sexual frustration and young love, seen through the lens of high school teens Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) and Maeve Wiley. Otis’s mother is a sex therapist, and the duo decide to make some extra money by starting an impromptu sex clinic for their classmates. With Otis’s extensive knowledge and emotional understanding, and Maeve’s cocky and self-assured  attitude, the team is able to help others improve their relationships."Sex Education" sheds light on how teens emotionally progress and develop throughout high school. Although initially a strong disbeliever in love, Maeve grows to engage in a new found relationship with the school’s Golden Boy and swimming jock, Jackson Marchetti (Kedar Williams-Stirling). Her experiences as the season progresses are enticing, entertaining and leave viewers wanting more. During the show, Maeve finds herself having to come up with solutions to many problems that follow her throughout the show. She does this with a strong heart and determined mind. The enthralling set only strengthens the show, as the rolling hills of Great Britain, hillside homes and trailer parks completely emerge viewers into the story. The multifaceted setting provides the show with a strong foundation and the little details that make it all the more entertaining. For an American (and particularly, Californian) viewer, the lush greenery and subtle beauty of the English countryside aids immersion into the story.Given Asa Butterfield’s history in film, such as in “Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children,” it is no surprise that he is cast as an awkward teen. As Otis, Butterfield artfully portrays the young therapist’s skill at diagnosing others, and inability to express his own emotions. Butterfield's performance brings an appealing authenticity to the polar nature of Otis’s personality.“Sex Education" far exceeds the standards of the basic high school sex comedy. If you think this is for you, turn on Netflix and go watch Sex Education. A final plus: they speak in British accents the entire time!
