Movie Night at Barnum Hall
On Nov. 9, 2017, Samo’s Symphony Orchestra hosted a movie night at Barnum Hall, screening “Spider-Man: Homecoming” to fundraise money for their upcoming tour. The Symphony Orchestra is headed for South America in March, where they will be performing at various venues throughout Argentina and Uruguay. However, the tour is certainly not cheap; therefore, the orchestra has had to constantly fundraise to make sure every member can participate in the tour. This event, in particular, was planned completely by parents of students in Symphony Orchestra. Samo’s Orchestra Director, Joni Swenson, is extremely appreciative of all that the parents do for the orchestra program, but hopes to get students more involved in fundraising. “Once we have an orchestra students board, which the elections for are going to happen next week, then I am sure that the students will get much more involved in fundraising,” Swenson said. While not many came to movie night on Nov. 9, the event was still a great way for people to come together and enjoy themselves. “The purpose of the movie night was to fundraise for the orchestra, and it’s also a way to bring people together and do something fun!” Swenson said.Ultimately, even though the Symphony Orchestra probably didn’t meet their fundraising goal after their movie night on Nov. 9, they certainly achieved their goal of hosting an event that those who attended would enjoy!
