The TRUE best true crime sources

Whether they are morbid, fascinating or scandalous, this generation seems to have a fascination with murder and insanity. From this craze has sprouted an abundance of Youtubers who are ready and willing to cater to that interest. What better way to indulge this curiosity than to watch strangers on the internet regale the tales of real life criminals? From conspiracy theories to famous classic cases, here are the five of the -subjectively- best Youtube channels that will satisfy all of one’s true crime desires. Cayleigh Elise - 403KCayleigh Elise’s channel primarily covers mainstream cases. Unlike the more popular channels, Elise perfectly captures the true crime aesthetic with her dry, direct deliverance of details and her dark clothes and hair. Although she permanently left Youtube three months ago, her videos remain posted and continue to entertain hundreds of thousands of true crime enthusiasts.Kendall Rae - 1.51MKendall Rae connects with her viewers by talking through each case carefully and showing sympathy when it is deserved, as opposed to some channels in which cases are simply presented instead of discussed. While she mostly covers true crime, Rae also deals in conspiracy theories and missing person cases. Her videos vary and Rae always has an enthusiastic approach to filming some pretty depressing material. She also runs a related podcast called “Mile Higher”.Rob Gavagan - 3.01MRob Gavagan’s channel is one of the most popular independent true crime channels on Youtube, as well as one of the first. His channel, along with Elise’s, whom he is friends and collaborators with, was created in 2012 and is widely considered the most reliable video source for true crime information. However, his channel is split into two categories: “Seriously Strange,” for crime and conspiracies, and a comedy series called “Why Would You Put That On The Internet,” branching out into various video genres. Buzzfeed Unsolved: True Crime - 3.16MBuzzfeed Unsolved is hosted by Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej, a duo that bring comedy to tragedy. Due to their affiliation with Buzzfeed, they are able to funnel much more time and money into making their videos polished and professional. While Bergara and Madej do not always give the most detailed or accurate descriptions of classic true crime cases, they are certainly the most entertaining, in my opinion. With interspersed commentary and jokes, the two hosts’ contrasting personalities make Buzzfeed Unsolved the most bingeable and casual true crime channel.True Crime Daily -  3.33MTrue Crime Daily, hosted by Chris Hansen, is the most subscribed to crime channel on Youtube, running both a channel and a podcast. Their videos are certainly on the longer side, but nonetheless very informative, and the hosts keep their channel relevant by mostly covering recent cases. They also bring in guest speakers and, as a podcast, function more professionally than many casual youtubers; they also have a lot more connections in the true crime world. Similar to Buzzfeed Unsolved, Hansen is able to lighten the mood through banter with the guests or experts that often co-host with him. After all, just the presence of multiple people is often calming to viewers in the midst of an intense and likely scary case.
