The Weekend, Beyonce, and Eminem Take Coachella 2018
The Coachella lineup has finally been released, with strong headliners including The Weekend, Beyonce, Eminem, Cardi B, French Montana and Louis the Child performing. The two week festival opens the weekend of April 13, and ends the weekend of April 22 in Indio, California. People already knew that Beyonce would be attending the festival, due to her cancellation last year from her pregnancy. After being notified that she could not perform, Lady Gaga took Beyonce’s place as a replacement headliner. Samo students feel positive about Beyonce being a headliner. “I think it’s great that Beyonce is performing at Coachella this year! She is an amazing artist and will make Coachella even more fun!” Natalie Bay (’19) said. “Last year I was so disappointed that Beyonce cancelled her performance, but when I saw that she was headlining, I felt eager to go!” Lea Eidelman (’21) said. Beyonce will be taking the stage on day two of the weekend, along with her two fellow headliners The Weeknd (day one) and Eminem (day two). The Weeknd was last seen at Coachella in 2012, but is now coming back strong as ever as a headliner. In addition, this will be Eminem’s first time at the music festival. “I was very surprised when I saw that Eminem was headlining as well. I did not expect him to perform this year, but I’m looking forward to watching him. I hope he performs some of his old songs,” Eidelman said. Following the headliners, this years lineup offers various genres of artists. Starting off with R&B, famous names including SZA and Miguel will be performing, along with many rappers including Tyler the Creator, Cardi B and Post Malone. Electronic music artists including Kygo, ODESZA, BORNS and Louis the Child will also be featured. Along with that, rock bands including The War on Drugs and Portugal. The Man will perform. There are other artists that are on the rise and will be making their first appearance at the festival including Snakehips, Marian Hill and Russ. This year’s 19th annual Coachella lineup has displayed a broad spectrum of artists with promising headliners.
