Letters to Tommy
Comedic letter by Contributor Griffin James ('18) Dear Thomas, When the Big Blue Bus rushes by as I stand on the sidewalk, I see my reflection in the windows and it reminds me to put some clothes on. There’s a homeless man there singing. He is talented but my dollars are for me. However he can have a hundred dollar bill. This is the way things work now, Thomas. This is how they have to be. I’ve had ice cream and cookies and pizza. But nothing’s been sweeter than my sweet sixteen. I heard you have a birthday coming up. That’s what happens nowadays, we get older. And I heard you have been training for a marathon everyday. I just wanted to say I’m proud of you. So it’s ok to cry when you fall into your grandpa’s arms after crossing the finish line. Just don’t fall too hard, he’s fragile. But he’s proud of you too. I saw Elmo in the corner of my alley, cloaked in the shadows. He still hasn’t come inside. Thomas, things go wrong sometimes. Mistakes get made sometimes. But we all knew that. Chase your dreams my friend, drive your car. Go ahead, I’m just waiting for the bus.Sincerely, Griffin Rocky James
