10 activities for the holidays
- Go ice skating! Ice in downtown Santa Monica returned on Nov. 1 and is a great, wintery spot to have fun with friends. Tickets are $15 and the rink is open until 10 p.m. on weekdays, 12 p.m. on weekends.
- Do some winter baking! Popular options are traditional sugar cookies or cinnamon rolls. If you don’t feel like baking from scratch, stores like Target and Michaels have gingerbread house kits of all sizes.
- Make hot chocolate/eggnog, or buy holiday drinks. Starbucks, for example, comes out with some yummy seasonal beverages like peppermint hot chocolate and gingerbread lattes.
- Crank up your AC and wear sweaters/jackets around the house. In Santa Monica, the chance to pull out holiday accessories doesn’t last very long!
- Visit the Grove. During Dec. they have fake snow, the trolley is running, and their holiday decoration is a sight to see!
- Play holiday music and watch holiday movies! KOST 103.5, Spotify, Pandora, etc. have cheerful classics and movie reruns won’t be hard to find.
- Visit Arrowhead or Big Bear. They have a few winter sport resorts or you can just drive up to visit and play in some snow.
- Finish your holiday shopping! It’s never too early to get that responsibility off your chest.
- Do home decorating! Lights and candles can make a world of difference and a Christmas tree/pine wreath gives off a great winter fragrance.
- Make some DIY holiday crafts. There are countless instructions for making your own wreath or handmade holiday cards online and they add a creative personal touch to your holidays!
