Secret Santa DIY gift ideas
Secret Santa. The beloved, age-old and slightly anti-semitic tradition we all know and love. However, when participating in a pool of many people, it can easily get confusing on what to get people. Especially when the sum total of your social contact with someone has been one semester sitting across from each other in chemistry. Here are some DIY ideas on how to make it through the anxietal madness that is the holiday season without going broke. The person taking eight APs-Okay, so you’re not close. They’re too busy curing estrogen-based cancer and superscoring a 36 to hang out. No problem. Chances are, their class load drains them. And in turn, they’re probably a coffee addict. You could make them a personalized mug. Buy a plain mug; make sure it’s big and can hold a lot, size matters after all. Using permanent markers, you could illustrate their name, interests and [seizure-inducing] high-achieving life aspirations on a plain mug. They’ll love the uniqueness of your gift, and its real-life application. Your Best friend-They’re the one person you know better than yourself; your gift should reflect that. Maybe make them a starter pack. Get three to four small items that are their daily essentials. Items like chapstick from their favorite brand, or pack of bobby pins- if they always lose them. Things that they use regularly. Not only is it inexpensive, but they’ll get a kick out of how well you know them. The girl who wronged you three years back that you still hold a grudge with because in your mind it’s completely justifiable-They may be a scheming and conniving female dog, but it’s the holidays. The most “magical time of year”, just put your grudge on hold for this one month. Get them something that relates to them. For example, since they keep secrets- make them a book safe. Carve the center of a book out and glue the pages together for stability. They’ll get a lot of use out of it- hiding things like they hide the truth! Or, if they’re a liar, get them a Too faced™ holiday makeup set. They’ll resonate with the brand. Or, if all else fails, you could just burn something, like they’ve burnt bridges, and give them coal. This holiday season, it’s the thought that counts. <3 Ms. Santa freakin’ claus-We all know one. That person who makes it their goal in life every winter to make sure that anyone within a fifty feet radius of them knows that they, ‘LOVE CHRISTMAS AHHHH”. While it may be the season of giving, if you give them a DIY gift you made them, they’ll look at you like you just gave them socks from Target. Try buying them something christmas-y; like a “Build your own ornament’ kit, or a book of recipes for holiday foods (i.e. cookies for santa, making holiday ham, etc.). It’s not exactly ‘DIY’, but at least it’s better than socks.
