From Dickie’s to Doc Martens to “drip”, Samo’s 2,834-person student body is a melting pot of style and self-expression. It’s not what we wear, but how we wear it that makes us who we are. To kick off 2019, we had two of our editors seek the most stylish students on campus to capture the diversity and eccentricity of Samo culture. The following are just a few snapshots of those whose styles stand out with uniqueness and vibrance. Kalana Kai Ortega '21"What really makes my style unique is that because of my pink and purple hair I have to base my entire outfit around what colors work with it, and when I’m wearing colorful things I have to find a way to make it work and make the outfit balanced."Quincy McGriff '20"My style is different you really wouldn’t see another person wearing my clothes. I don’t like to match colors, I like to switch it up. My style is unique because it’s just so different, like I’m just too lit."Micah Piscopo '22"I would describe my style as underground. I describe it that way because a lot of people these days dress according to other people, that’s how trends or “waves” work. I would say I am somewhat on my own wave. But the base of my style is what a lot of people call “ SoundCloud Rapper”. So I take the underground of the hip-hop or trap style, and put my own style or creativity into it. What makes my style unique is I customize my clothes, and some of my clothes I make from scratch."Isabella Soto '20"My style is all over the place, it’s just whatever I feel the best and most myself in on that particular day. I think my style is unique because I wear anything I want. I try not to worry too much about following any “fashion rules” and I genuinely just try to feel cute when I walk out the door in the morning."Joie Lyn Toth '19"I would describe my style as a badass Barbie. I think my style is unique from my use of color, I hate neutrals."Jayla Smith '21"I don’t really know how I would describe my style. I mostly base what i look like off what other ppl say and other ppl say I look emo or goth or something like that. I just would call it a little of everything. What makes my style unique is that no one else dresses like me."Sila Akcora '22"I would describe my style as either very bohemian or like my friends say “hippie-like” or a little edgy and laid back, I don’t really have a specific style though. My style is unique because it is true to myself, and obviously there is only one me." Luke Economou '20"My style is different. I feel like I have the most drip in not just my school, but all of LA. The way I put fits together and rock them is different from everyone else. I feel like if you were to take my outfit off and wear it, you wouldn’t be able to rock it like I do. I’m willing to try new things and I don’t care what anyone says."Natalie Bay '19"I would describe my style as girly street wear. My fashion inspiration is from different fashion blogs and instagram pages. My style is unique because i wear many bold colors and accessories."Tessa Wolpert '19"I would describe my style as coordinated androgynous. I don't think it is unique. The only unique thing about my clothing is that I am the one wearing it, not anybody else."
