Twitter Tyranny
In terms of academic-based achievement, there are a couple accolades that stand supreme over the rest. There are the Rhodes Scholars, the Valedictorians and the National Honor Society members, but there is another group of people whose Samo-related activities have garnered them the highest possible levels of clout among the rest: the people who are mentioned on Dr. Antonio Shelton’s Twitter account. As submitted by “CLOUTGANGG” on Sept. 6, 2017, Urban Dictionary’s most popular definition of clout states that it means “being famous and having influence.” Clout is a positive thing; it doesn’t necessarily have a negative connotation associated with it despite high schoolers excessively using the terms in the beginning of 2018. There are plenty of ways to gain clout, but as the principle of Samo, Shelton’s Twitter is the most efficient path to stardom.Recently, we saw the boys’ water polo team make an appearance on Shelton’s Twitter after their CIF championship, and subsequently witnessed their overwhelming amount of fame in the following days. The same goes for anyone who guest stars on the account: extreme clout. But Shelton had no idea of this trend. In his quest to spread positive Samo news, he unintentionally created a clout-giving machine. When asked about if he knew of this, Shelton laughed, then began to rant about how he has no followers—completely disregarding the question.“I didn’t know that! Seriously? Well I need more followers then! My little small school had 1000 followers, now I can’t even get 1000 followers, thanks a lot,” Shelton stated. “ Come on! Jeez… My [old] school barely had 700 kids and I had 1000 followers, now I only have 700 followers...haters.” Shelton continued on, still in absolute dismay at the miniscule amount of followers his twitter account possesses.“But, this is a big school, where my people at? 715 followers? It’s an outrage,” Shelton concluded. Now that our principal is aware of this, it should be interesting to look at how he uses his powers. Will he become a tyrannical monster, using the previously-mentioned powers to his own benefit, or will he keep his influence at bay, continuing to mention the incredible accomplishments of Samo students. We will have to wait and see.
