Selena Gomez Video Clip

On Friday, Aug. 25, the Samo swimming pool was shut down the whole day starting at 10 a.m. until Saturday at 1 p.m as the singer/actress Selena Gomez filmed a part of her upcoming music video in our school’s facilities. Both pool doors that give access to the location were guarded by Selena’s security staff who made sure no one interfered with the filming being done inside.   The production company contacted Samo’s sports facility coordinator, Brian Part, with time before the filming to know whether it would be possible to use our pool. The school gave them permission and as a consequence, any kind of activities happening that day were automatically canceled.“We were contacted by Selena’s team with time, asking if it would be possible to use the swimming pool's infrastructure for about 24 hours,” Part said. “One of the things I’m more satisfied about the shooting is the secretism held asked by the production company until the singer decided to post a video of where she was, letting her Samo followers discover their idol was close to them.”One of these fortunate students who reacted quickly to Selena’s Snapchat notification was junior Arielle Walsh (’19). After seeing the Snapchat story of the singer posting a photo at Samo, Arielle, amazed by the news, tested her luck and went to one of the pool’s door when the area wasn’t too crowded. “We [Arielle and her friends] went anyways and first met her staff,” Walsh said. “They told us there was no chance of seeing her, but Selena’s assistant helped us meet her. When we met her, she was so sweet and didn’t rush us when it came to asking for photos together.”It was during one of the singer’s breaks when this group of girls was allowed by the assistant to say hello and show their admiration to Selena.“We let her know how much she meant to our childhood and she answered thankfully,” Walsh said. “Right after that, Selena went back to the filming section to continue the video clip.”However, not all students were so lucky and the majority just saw nothing more than photos. The frosh/soph goalie of the Water Polo team, Elijah Bell (’20), who had no practice that day due to the pool’s shutdown, was told about how a super star’s filming would make him miss practice on Friday but had no idea Selena was the famous coming.“I felt good about not having practice, but was upset we were denied access to the pool and couldn’t take a peek at Selena Gomez,” Bell said. “Nevertheless, it’s mindblowing how a famous popstar considered our school as her shooting spot.” However, unlike Bell, there were some exceptions of students who managed to cross some words with the singer aside from the strict restrictions set by her security staff. In the end, the occurrence didn’t just benefit the production company that could carry out successfully the filming but also Samo, that received a generous donation by the guests and some lucky students that were able to exchange some words with their lifelong idol.
