A memorable homecoming game for Samo football
On Friday, Oct. 26, an enormous crowd of students gathered to watch Samo’s homecoming game against Culver City High School. After an eventful final home game, Samo faced defeat with an ending score of 0-42.The game started on a collective sense of spirit, with the crowd filled with Samo students from all walks of life. As the first quarter came to a close, Samo was consistently unable to take full control of the field. Despite their best efforts, Culver City succeeded in taking a 35 point lead.Throughout the second quarter, they were able to maintain the score by loading up their defense. With that, they were able prevent Culver from increasing their lead.Half-time brought the announcement of homecoming king and queen, Jeffrey Cole (’18) and Zoe D’Andrea (’18). Along with that, Songs and Cheer performed to help instill a sense of pride within the Samo audience. Marching Band then performed a full rendition of their usual competition performance alongside Culver’s band. After both schools completed their performances, the Culver and Samo bands and color guards recognized all their seniors by inviting them and their families onto the field as part of senior night. As the third quarter came along, a sense of resilience was seen on the field. This came in the form of strong defense and even in stealing the ball from the other team. At one point, quarterback Leo Reynoso (’18) attempted to use this in scoring a touchdown. However, due to the technicality of the rules, it was not counted. That sense of perseverance was not lost on them as the fourth quarter approached. The team worked hard on their defense, not allowing the opposing team to score until the final six minutes of the game. Unfortunately, their efforts were not enough as they eventually lost by a 42 point lead.
