All we want for Christmas: sports edition
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, the holiday season is in full swing, the fun winter weather has people filled with joy and Major League Sports is all we can talk about. The NBA is approaching its midway point, the NFL playoffs are here, the MLB offseason is going crazy and NHL teams are skating their way to success. Like many of you I am an L.A. sports fan and there's a lot of things us fans wish for our favorite teams. Let's take a look at our L.A. sports Christmas Wishlist. The Los Angeles Lakers- A Championship for The King, the Youngins and The City Of Angels As Lakers fans it would be outlandish to wish for an NBA championship this year, but we are going to do it anyways. It starts with home court advantage in the playoffs, specifically being the number two seed. Assuming that the Warriors will be the number one seed, being the number two seed will allow The Lakers to not face them until the conference finals. Then, lead by Lebron James’ 50 point triple double performances The Lakers beat the Golden State Warriors then sweep the finals, bringing The Lakers their first championship since 2010. Merry Christmas, it’s lit. The Los Angeles Rams- The Lombardi Trophy for Super Bowl LIIIThey are already going to win, but we could just wish for some reassurance, and for the Saints to suddenly fall apart. They are the best team in the league by far, no dispute. The newly assembled LA Rams team is going to win the championship in only their third year in Los Angeles if our wish comes true. It will be a tough path through the NFC, but a return of Cooper Kupp, an MVP award to Aaron Donald and coach of the year Sean McVay will help our chances. This along with the young guns Jared Goff and Todd Gurley, plus a stellar veteran defense, will make our christmas dreams come true, giving us our first L.A. Major League sports championship since 2014’s L.A. Kings. The Los Angeles Dodgers- Not losing another World Series, Pretty Please... It's very hard to deal with. The level of depression fans experience after one World Series loss is excruciating, two is unbearable and three would see the number of Dodger fans go from a lot to zero. So please, for the people’s sake and the franchise, don’t put us through this experience again. We will do anything, really, as long as we don’t lose again...please...I can’t take it. We will wish for Bryce Harper, we will wish for Cy Young Kershaw again, literally anything as long as we don’t lose. It would almost be better if The Dodgers don’t even make it to the World Series. A win would be nice but the stress of a possible loss kind of makes me wish for them to not make it at all. Los Angeles Kings- Make us proud to be Kings fans againThe Kings are on track for one of the worst seasons in franchise history and all we can wish of them is to not finish last. That team that won twice in three years in 2012 and 2014 is long gone and all we want is to not have the absolute worst downfall. Being an L.A. hockey team AND the laughingstock of the league is the last thing we want. Imagine the backlash that would hit. Critics would say our hot L.A. weather isn’t fit for a hockey team, then the franchise moves to Canada, wins a championship and we are stuck rooting for the Ducks. The L.A. Chargers- A Super Bowl Battle of the L.A. teamsThe surprising Chargers have marched their way to second in their division. The Chiefs and the Patriots are more than likely to beat the Chargers in the playoffs, but anything can happen. I think we all saw what happened last Thursday against the Cheifs with the two point conversion finale from Phillip Rivers to win the game and, don’t even get me started on the Dolphin’s last play, miracle touchdown to beat the Patriots . We should wish for Rivers to win MVP, a first round bye, an upset of the Patriots and Chiefs and a super bowl appearance, giving us Rams vs Chargers and an automatic NFL trophy in Los Angeles. L.A. Clippers- Boban Becomes an L.A. LegendThe Clippers have been the surprise of the NBA currently standing atop the western conference. But these things don’t last forever, unless our wish comes true. Tobias Harris makes All NBA first team, Lou Williams is an All Star and sixth man of the year, Boban becomes the next Shaq (but makes his free throws), and the Clippers retain a top four spot in the west. Two L.A. basketball teams in the top four of the western conference would be a dream come true.
