Boys lacrosse loses first home game against Pali

On March 2, Samo’s boys lacrosse team lost their first home game against Pacific Palisades Charter High School, with a final score of 7-18. In the first half Samo advanced quickly, scoring a total of five points, having a run from defensive player Kyle Atwater (’18) and a goal at the end of the first quarter by Simba Makwa (’21). Despite this, Samo could not match Pali’s four point lead, ending the first half 5-9. “We knew going into the game it would be a battle,” Atwater said.At the start of the third quarter, Samo started out on defense after losing the ball in the first face off, which earned Pali another point and subsequently a five point lead. “After halftime, we were hyped up to compete in the next half,” Atwater said. Following Pali’s initial goal in the first two minutes of the quarter, Pali continued to score, earning a total of four points in the first six minutes, but Samo fought back scoring one point. However, a minute before the halfway point of the quarter, a Pali offender went down after experiencing double leg cramps that resulted in a three minute stall in the game. At the end of the third quarter, Samo fought to earn their 7th point, but it was still not enough to meet Pali’s now seven point lead, ending the quarter 7-14. “Overall, I think we played a tough game, but our team is still looking to finding our rhythm and become more in sync,” defensive player Hunter Staib (’18) said.By the end of the fourth quarter, the boys were unable to score another point and finished the game 7-18. Their next home game is on Thursday, March 8, against San Marcos High School.
