Girls' golf ends a "tee"rific season

Samo’s girls’ golf team ended their season on Oct. 17 at Victoria Golf Course with a match against West Torrance High School. A new coach along with many new team members brought a season of uncertainty for the program, as they viewed this year as a chance to grow their skill sets and camaraderie.Co-captains Sarah Ogata (’20) and Jessica Engfer (’21) are proud of their hard work and support for one another despite a challenging season. Ogata was specifically impressed with the team’s noticable improvement in chemistry as the season progressed.“I’m really proud of the bonds we created not only as a team but as friends,” Ogata said.Even though they were not able to win every match, they felt they were able to foster a fun atmosphere that really allowed them to enjoy the sport, barring any competitive stress. “To be brief, we didn’t win any games. I hope that will change as the team continues to get better and practice,” Ogata said. And Engfer, who is still hopeful for the team’s future, believes that with consistent practice they will accumulate a better record in years to come. “I hope that as a team next year we can stack on wins,” Engfer said.  The captains felt it was a great experience to play with so many talented golfers and have huge hopes for the next season. They also look forward to new members joining their golf family as well. “I really enjoy the girls’ golf team and encourage others to join. It is a good way to meet people and everyone is very nice and welcoming,” Engfer said. The girls’ golf program believes in their own potential, and plan to work hard in the offseason as they prepare to become more competitive in their 2020 campaign.
