Girls tennis clobbers Marymount
On Tuesday, Sept. 18, girls tennis had an exciting but narrow win against Marymount. The final score of the home match was 10-8. This win only puts them closer to making it to CIFs. Captain Parker James (’19) expressed pride in the squad’s win over Marymount and was very content with the team’s success. “We were all very happy with how we played and excited to win,” James said. Annie Morawiec (’19) appeared unphased and unsurprised by the win as she expressed her high expectations for the new season. However, Morawiec did suggest that the team could work on building-up more enthusiasm to encourage their team and intimidate opponents.“I felt nothing because I expect nothing but wins for the rest of the season because we’ve all been grinding hard. As a team, we need to work on gassing each other up because it’s always really quiet on the courts and it helps when you cheer really loudly because it gets in the other team’s heads especially if we’re down,” Morawiec said. Coach Wilston Poon also weighed in on the win against Marymount with satisfaction in his team’s performance. Though, the final score of the match was narrow, Poon was content with the lead the Varsity players had cemented earlier on.“The girls played really well from the start and took a commanding lead. Slowing me to sub in players to give some of the non-starters a chance to play which is always great. We ended with a score 10-8 which was close but we had secured the lead with our starting varsity players,” Coach Poon said. Having won their match against Marymount, the team seems very confident that they will prove to be a team to reckon with on the court this season and will continue to dedicate themselves in practice. Girls’ tennis is hoping for their best season yet.
