Girls water polo faces hard loss against Mira Coasta
On Wednesday, Jan. 10, the Samo varsity girls water polo team lost to Mira Costa High School, with a final score of 5-13.The game started in favor of Mira Costa, with the first quarter ending at a score of 1-5. The opponent’s strong defense coupled with Samo’s weak offensive tactics paved the way for the stark point gap. By halftime, the score was 1-7 and Samo fans in the audience were on the edge of their seats, hoping for a comeback. “I think it was that we didn’t come out hard enough in the first half of the game and made some defensive errors that ultimately cost us the game,” player Sara Amirdelfan (’19) said.During halftime, the team regained energy with a team pep talk. In the third quarter, Mira Costa held up a strong defense as Samo’s offensive game grew. They, however, were only able to bring up their score by two points, while Mira Costa boasted three more. As the fourth quarter came along, Samo’s offense stayed strong, eventually rounding up two more points, making the final score 5-13.“Mira Costa is just more aggressive and conditioned than we are at this point,” coach Matthew Flanders said.
