Godinez obliterated by Samo football
On Friday, Sept. 27, Samo football fans flooded the SMC bleachers for a home game against the Godinez Fundamental High School Grizzlies. The varsity team dominated Godinez with a jaw-dropping score of 49-0 after Godinez forfeited the game in the third quarter. A majority of the points that Samo scored were in the first half. Defensive end Colby Bell (’20) made the first touchdown of the game, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Soon after, middle linebacker Alejandro Hernandez (’21) intercepted the ball over a Godinez player’s head, giving the ball to Samo. Multiple touchdowns were made throughout the first quarter by players such as running back Bryce Smith (’20) and Bell, with most of the tackles done by cornerback and slot receiver Donovan Parks (’20). After Godinez fumbled the ball multiple times on offense, team captain, corner and slot receiver, Kayden Thomas (’20) intercepted the ball with five minutes left in the first quarter, making a ‘pick-six’ touchdown and setting the score to 34-0. “We had a great game plan going into that game. We all know was a team we were going to have to play our tails off. I feel as a team we were more focused on trying to win as many games as we could,” Thomas said. For the second and third quarters, Parks continued to stump Godinez’s offense and stop any intent of scoring. With an interception made six minutes left in the third quarter by wide receiver Mark Phifer (’21), Samo started to up it’s game even more. Samo completely ruined any hope for Godinez to score when strong safety and running back Jadyn Taylor (’20) ran from the 50 yard line for a touchdown that set the score to 48-0. Godinez forfeited at the end of the third quarter and the game ended with 49-0 with 15 minutes left. The next home game is the Homecoming game against Culver City at SMC on October 5th at 7 P.M.
