Meet the new Songs coach!

Until this year, the Samo Songs team has always functioned without a coach and all of the choreography was created by students. At the start of the 2019 school year, however,  Alexis Harrington became the head coach of the Songs team and she guides the dancers as they perform at Pep Rallies, basketball and football games and CIF competitions.  Harrington was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and is currently enrolled at Cal State Northridge. While she previously attended Hamilton High School, most of her family attended Samo and currently her little sister is a student here too. Harrington has been dancing ever since she was four years old. From ages 4-18, she danced at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Los Angeles, California. As a child, she trained in ballet, modern dance, jazz and hip-hop. She currently prefers hip-hop but also loves contemporary and lyrical styles. Additionally, for the past four years, Harrington has been on her college dance team.  Before college, Harrington considered a career as a backup dancer, but she always knew that she eventually wanted to teach dance.  The one thing that will not change is her excitement about working with the Song team. Harringto shared that she always feels so proud whenever her dancers perform and is very excited for all the events in the coming year. She is looking forward to incorporating more technique into the routines and showing the school a new and improved Songs team, as team member Gracie Evans (’21) mentioned.  “I feel that she is a great addition to the squad because of her experience not only professionally, but on her own Songs team as well. She brings in new choreography and routines that this team has never seen before and pushes us to reach our full potential,” Evans said. Like Evans, the Samo community, and especially the Songs members, are excited for what Harrington can add to the team.
