New quarterback brings hope to Samo's football team
To start off the 2018-19 school year, Anthony Arnou (’20) left Loyola High School to continue his football career at Samo. He is now the starting varsity quarterback for the Samo team. Arnou was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and now lives in California. Since the age of seven, the rising football star knew he wanted to play the game. Watching football every Sunday made the sport more attractive to his young mind and in turn, lured him into playing. Arnou decided to transfer from the Lincoln Middle School to Loyola High School in ninth grade due to their stellar football program. After two years, the quarterback and his family chose to move back to his roots in the SMMUSD district for a variety of reasons. “I just wasn’t really happy there because the commute was pretty demanding,” Arnou said.In addition to the extensive drive, the junior was looking for a sports program that would allow him to gain experience and grow as a player. He chose Samo because of the familiarity of the district and the potential of its football team. No matter the reason he came to Samo, it’s apparent Arnou’s skills can bring something new to the table. The quarterback can throw a ball up to 67 yards and agrees he is rather accurate. He believes that, paired with his motivation, this can help give an edge for Samo to have a successful season, and further benefit the team. “I was looking for an opportunity to work with a good coach and succeed on the field,” he said. Overall, Arnou is content with his decision to transfer. He says he thinks the move was worth it because he is all around happier. As for the football program, Arnou feels the coaches are doing their best to put each and every player in better situations to succeed, despite this season’s rough start.
