Palisades girls soccer proves themselves a worthy opponent

On Thursday, Nov. 30, the Samo girls soccer team went up against an old rival, Palisades High School, in their first home game. The two teams are rivals because many of the girls on both teams knew each other from their previous participation clubs. In the end the two teams tied, with a score of 0-0. Although they didn’t win, Sierra Merille (’19) reflected on the game positively. “It was good, I thought we really came together as a team,” Merille said. Coach Jimmy Chapman provided his assessment over the relative play and the tied score. He was content how his team set the bar high, with great expectations. “I was pleased with that score because Pali is a very strong opponent. We showed some grittiness and hard work. We were able to keep our level high and compete,” Chapman said. Alex Steigelfest (’19), who played midfield, provided an in depth overview of her thoughts on how the team played. “I think we played pretty well. We had some really nice sequences. We were really physical in the midfield and we had some breakthroughs through their defense, but we can have better games for sure,” Steigelfest said. Overall, their first home game shouldn’t be taken as a defeat, for Samo proved that their team can put in a good fight. “It was a close game; we had some opportunities and they had some opportunities to score. But overall I was pleased with our level of play and ability to stay consistent and disciplined,” Chapman said.
