Samo football puts up a good fight against Compton High School

On Friday, Sept. 9, both Samo and Compton High School came to the field with determination and confidence looking for nothing but a win. Unfortunately, Samo lost with a final score of 36-22. In the beginning of the first quarter, things were looking good for Samo as they worked past Compton’s defense and scored the first touchdown of the game. Samo was doing great at keeping up their defense, not letting Compton get anywhere near the end zone.“I was really happy with the first quarter. Our defense, offense, and tackles were good and our energy was high. I had high hopes coming into the game,” head coach Ramsey Lambert said. Seven minutes into the second quarter, Compton fought back with determination and scored their first touchdown, trailing ahead of Samo with a score of 6-8. Fighting through the final minutes of the second quarter, Compton eased through Samo’s defense and scored another eight points for their team, ending the second quarter 6-16.“We started to slip away, our main downfall was our tackles and defense. We could feel frustration and tension building up, which also added to our downfall,” Lambert said. The third quarter began with an injury from Samo’s lineup and another touchdown from Compton. But midway through the quarter, Samo fought back and scored a touchdown, gaining on Compton with a score of 14-26. Frustrated, Compton tried to get past Samo to score again, but no luck. Instead, Samo found their energy and scored another eight points, two minutes before the end of the third quarter.“We were starting to get our momentum back. The boys were really determined to win and they put up a good fight.” Lambert said. At 22-26, Samo was determined to win. Both teams put up their best defense and offense until, four minutes before the end of the game, Compton scored their final touchdown, leading away from Samo 22-36. “We definitely put up a fight and did better than the last couple games,” Kaidan Thomas (’20) said. “I know for a fact that we’re going to take away from this game and bring home a win next time.”
