Samo lacrosse suffers tough loss against Bosco
As rain pounded the turf and fans in attendance watched time expired on the scoreboard, samo’s boys’ lacrosse team stood at mid-field; morally depleted after a tough 3-15 loss at the hands of St. John Bosco High School on March 6. Faced up against Mitchell Myers, the highly-ranked face-off specialist committed to Dartmouth Lacrosse, Samo could not do much to counter him and the Bosco team. Bosco dominated possession of the ball in the first half, which gave them ample opportunity for shot attempts and eventually scored points. Despite a couple impressive saves from goalkeeper Tyson Zecher (’19), the continuous onslaught of Bosco’s offense led to a 0-12 deficit for samo at the half. At one point when the Bosco achieved a double-digit lead, Samo’s defensemen could be seen arguing about their assignments from the sideline after a goal. “I think our team could have, in the first half, try a little harder to get clears over midline and our offense could have worked harder to get open and have more people dodge, rather than just relying on one person in one-on-one the entire first half.” Anthony Perini (’21), a starting offensive attacker, said. In the start of the second half, however, Samo significantly improved their intensity. With some shifty fakes and jukes, Captain Joseph Kean (’19) scored 2 goals to break Samo’s scoring drought, and defensive tenacity spiked in this half as well. Samo was able to limit Bosco’s scoring output to just three goals. A last second goal by Spencer Wynn (’20) ended the game with a 3-15 score. Although this is an unfortunate loss for the team, they look to continue adding to their win column on Friday, March 15 against Birmingham High School at 7 p.m.
