Girls' lacrosse comes up short in first home game

Girls’ varsity lacrosse unfortunately lost their first home game of the season 1-12. They played Culver City High School on Wednesday, March 13. While their individual performances were impressive, their communication and teamwork were lacking. The girls defended very well towards the end, barely allowing Culver City near their goal during the last two quarters. While they attempted many shots, their opponents came on strong with the defense as well, blocking them at almost every attempt. Their passes and steals were also strong, but keeping the ball is an area of improvement. Harlow Koppen (’21) made Samo’s first goal during the third quarter, causing the sidelines to erupt in cheers. It was clear that she was driven, despite her opponents being up 11 points. She took control of the ball and made a confident shot that led to an impressive goal.“Scoring the goal after many failed attempts was really encouraging. My shot really inspired the rest of the team to stay positive,” Koppen saidFor next week’s game, the girls hope they can do a better job on offense and keeping the ball in their possession. Coach Brian Patenaude continues to motivate his players and works diligently in pointing out and helping them fix their weaknesses as a team. “Overall, we need to work on taking care of the ball in all areas on the field,” he said.Varsity girls’ lacrosse will hold their second home game of the season on March 25 at 5 p.m.
