Samo varsity girls' volleyball slays El Segundo
Wednesday, Oct. 16 marked the last game girls’ varsity volleyball would play this season. It was Samo vs. El Segundo and Samo did not disappoint. Once again, Samo went undefeated in all three sets, effectively continuing their ongoing win streak. The first set Samo was on their toes: El Segundo was not going down without a fight. They led the first set, getting ahead by almost four points. Nervous but determined, Samo rallied and won 25-23. Finding their rhythm, Samo took back the reins and led the second set. Only starters made up the team, as Coach Sato left nothing to chance. Scores seesawed back and forth: 11-9, 12-13, 16-16. After a hard fought battle, the team did not fail to impress as they emerged victorious 25-19. Samo showcased their dominance here, not even allowing El Segundo to reach 20 points. The third set was when Samo really took off, with El Segundo unable to match Samo’s team stamina and rigor. For the third time, Samo came out on top with an impressive score of 25-17. Samo player Tabitha Mitchell (’21) was happy with the win and comments on the next step for girls’ volleyball. “CIF is a great opportunity for us to get better. In order to succeed against the competition, we have to practice by focusing and playing hard,” said Mitchell.
