Swim aims to make a splash
Swimming is a sport that requires stamina and determination through hours spent practicing and exercising. Last year in CIF finals, the girls varsity team earned 460 points as a team, putting them in first place, while the boys varsity team earned 362 points, putting them in second. Coach Matt Flanders has high hopes to do just as well this year. “The season is still young, but our challenge is that we are very inexperienced as a group, and we will need to work hard to succeed,” Flanders said. Although the team may be inexperienced, they have high spirits and confidence in reaching their goals and playing better than ever before. “The biggest accomplishment is the great talent we have on the team,” Captain Dean Carr (’18) said. “Last year we had a couple people reach CIF and we did pretty well in finals.” Every year the swim team and their coach strive for the best, hoping to get as many people prepared and qualified for CIF as possible. They train for two hours, five days a week, working on their technique and stamina through dedication. “We have been practicing everyday with a lot of intense workouts and hard swim sets,” Carr said. The team is hoping to go all the way this season, working towards taking it all at CIF. “Our goal is to win in finals and bring back a CIF ring this season,” Carr said. “Our goals are always to win league and qualify as many swimmers to CIF and State as possible,” Flanders said.
