Ariana Grande, actor and musician, released her sixth studio album, “Positions,” on Oct 30. Grande’s album is unique due to her title choices and incorporation of various elements to her songs. The album features artists Doja Cat, The Weeknd and Ty Dolla $ign. It is available on Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music. “Positions” is an amusing, upbeat feel-good album guaranteed to put listeners in a good mood.
The album opens with Grande's song, “positions,” which highlights giddy love and intimacy and flows very well with each component of rhythm and melody in the song. As “positions,” reveals the importance of love, it is similar to Grande's song “34+35, ” and is equally as sensual as the title song of the album.
In 2014, Grande and the Weeknd collaborated on the song “Love me Harder,” for Grande's album “My Everything.” The Weeknd made another appearance in, “Positions” on“off the table.” It's a relaxed upbeat slow song that balances the two artist's voices in sync. The Weeknd’s solo is chill and correlates well with the song, while Grande performs a whistle note in the background of the song. This song is beautiful with a small snippet of classical music at the end that leaves the audience satisfied.
Doja Cat is featured on the album, providing a rap verse for the song “motive.” Doja Cat’s appearance on the album creates the perfect balance between singing and rap. It allows an audience that listens to rap to enjoy Grande’s album with this mix of Doja Cat's showcase.
In this album, Grande’s choice of naming her songs are different from other artists. Songs like “my hair” and “pov” are funny and lighthearted, and feel catered to Gen Z and younger millennial audiences. “Pov,” is the last song in the album and is the perfect closing song for this album since it reveals accepting all of the imperfections and ends with an emotional release.
Grande’s new album for 2020 is all about enjoying relationships, and allows the audience to forget about the hardships of what the year has brought. This album doesn’t stand out from her other albums such as “Sweetener” and “Thank u, Next”, where Grande developed a new style of music for herself and for her fans to connect with. However, the songs on this album are upbeat enough to dance to and have fun with.
