By Gwendolyn Warren, Staff Writer
Jack Harlow, a singer, songwriter and rapper who rose to fame this year, has paved the way in the music industry with his new album, “That's What They All Say”. Released on across all streaming platforms, Harlow’s album is full of popular features. With the work of Big Sean, Chris Brown, Lil Baby, Adam Levine, EST Gee, Static Major, Bryson Tiller, Dababy, Tory Lanez and Lil Wayne, Harlow has created a new style of hip-hop that has garnered serious attention across the music world.
“That’s What They All Say” opens with “Rendezvous,” as a solo for the beginning of the album. This is the shortest song on the album, but reveals Harlow's life in only one minute and fifty-three seconds. About the accomplishments that 22 year old Harlow has made, “Rendezvous” connects Harlow to his past by describing both his current lavish lifestyle and his time as a struggling artist. Harlow reveals how he would have open mics and would perform to sometimes only 8 people. This track is unique due to the storytelling that inspires his fans to pursue their own dreams.
Full of collaborations, a highlight on this album is Harlow's song with Adam Levine called “Same Guy.” It stands out by blending Levine’s voice in the background and allowing Harlow's rap taking the lead. Gospel singers mix in with Levine’s voice for the perfect ending to the song.
The popular song, “Whats Poppin,” appears twice on the album, hit number 2 in the charts and still has continued to start trends with its huge success since February. The famous song is featured on the album and Harlow grabbed rappers to put a remix on the song as well. The remix for “Whats Poppin,” is the closing of the album with Tory Lanez, Dababy and Lil Wayne. Each rapper gets their own solo and gives the listener a fast beat melody. This new remix still has the same beats as the original song, but the featured artist provides an energetic and confident feel.
“That's What They All Say,” is an album that has songs that have been heard before but each song has a different meaning that the audience gathers. Harlow's hard work is evident in this album and many of his fans will be inspired by the dedication.
