Marching Band’s dynamic season comes to a victorious end

Samo’s marching band’s season has come to an end, with their final performance held on Saturday, Nov. 20. The constant effort and amount of time the marching band sacrifices contributes to their overall performance.

On Nov. 13, Samo’s marching band earned a score of 85.30 for competition four and a score of 84 for competition five, earning them first place in Division V. The marching band held their final performance on Nov. 20 receiving fourth place in the competition. Performing at pep rallies and football games, the marching band has become a worthwhile inclusion of many Samo events. Ian DiMundo (’22), the trumpet section leader in the marching band, has cherished his time there throughout his four years at Samo.

“As I am very fond of music, marching band brings a unique experience that combines the effort of athletics and music together. It is a wonderful community that truly allows you to really get to know each other over the four month span of practicing daily, for hours on end,” DiMundo said.

Though many members, such as DiMundo, have dedicated their four years at Samo to the marching band, freshmen and sophomores are only just getting the hang of it. Oscar Garcia (’25), a new member of Samo’s marching band, has had a warm welcome so far.

“It has been pretty fun so far and everybody has been very welcoming, which allows me to work well. I really enjoy playing clarinet and I think I’ll be continuing it in future years,” Garcia said.

With a successful season overall, Samo’s marching band has brought both musical and athletic success to the school. The marching band really adds on to the school spirit and will be missed by many Samo students and staff members for its unique performances of both music and exercise.

The marching band’s triumphant last run has brought both musical and athletic success to Samo, and while their instrument cases may be closed for now, their spirit marches on.
