A message to the underclassmen

By Jeremy Platt, Staff Writer

Dear Classes of 2022, 2023 and 2024,

You lucky sons of b*****s.

It seems like every grade is moping about not being in high school, but only one grade has an actual excuse to feel dejected. Every student has expectations for high school and has at least one thing they’re looking forward to. Maybe it’s prom, maybe it’s playing under the Friday Night Lights or it might even be graduating. But you know what all those things have in common? They all happen in senior year.

Some students only care about academics.Well boo hoo! Stop crying about not being able to take your classes in person. When you guys are seniors, you will have the opportunity to take psychology classes, African American Literature or Shakespeare. In case you were unaware, all of those classes are 10 times better in person. So suck it up; the class of 2021 is the only grade deserving of pity! For some students, the only thing they are interested in is getting out of high school and into college. Well guess what? You will all get to graduate in front of your family, on the Greeks. For the class of 2021, all we get is a cool pencil with our names embroidered on it. Samo Principal Dr. Shelton is empathetic to the senior class this year, but is still hoping for a way to celebrate the class of 2021.

“Right now Samo’s administration is working on a commemorative fruit basket to make up for prom and a really nice, pre-recorded message from the tiki dancers who performed at the pep rallies in 2019 to makeup for grad night,” Shelton said.

The students that have been screwed over the most are senior athletes. They’ve been swept under the mat faster than the dildos thrown on to the stage at a Samo pep rally. Part of the reason that people play sports in high school is to get a scholarship for college. The athletes who’ve sacrificed leaving class early for a spot in line at the bathroom to take a pre-game shit won’t have the chance for their hard work and dedication to pay off. As a former Samo football player, I was looking forward to the amazing and unnecessary treatment that all athletes get from Dr. Medrano. The free pizzas, rounded up grades, excused absences and all of that good stuff. Samo senior athlete Summer Smith (’21) said some very heartfelt and well thought words about missing out on her senior season.

“I’m pissed about it, no cap,” Smith said.

So wise… Arguably the most fun part of high school is the second semester senior activities. These activities include prom, grad night, senior pep rallies, senior scavenger hunt, senior ditch day and commitment day. All of these events are cherishable moments for Samo students. While COVID-19 cases are cooling down and vaccines are being distributed, there is a lack of hope throughout the senior class. Samo Senior Freddie Benson (’21) remains uncertain about Samo hosting these ventures.

“I was just hoping to buss down on senior night and have a girl twerk on my-” Benson said.

Benson isn’t wrong. A lot of seniors are miserable about not having prom and senior night in 2021. So my final message to the classes of 2022, 2023 and 2024 is; if you are bummed out about not being able to have your freshman, sophomore or junior year... suck it up. At least you guys will be able to buss down on senior night.

XOXO,

An angry senior
