Forget Tinder, use ASB’s “Matchomatics” to find your Samo soulmate

ASB’s “Matchomatics” survey has returned once again after a one year suspension on the tradition due to COVID-19. Up until Jan. 28, every Samo student was able to take an online survey and can pay to receive their results during the week of Valentine’s Day.
Using surveymonkey.com’s Matchomatics template, ASB President Kelsie Sabbe (’22) and ASB Treasurer Denise Rosa (’22) organized this year’s survey. The online survey was accessible through a link and included questions about the type of person students are attracted to and their own interests. Some more unconventional prompts including, “In the animal kingdom you would be…” might reveal more specific traits and quirks of the survey participants.
Students’ answers were then recorded by the survey company, who will match students with the most common responses. During the week of Valentine’s Day, students can go to ASB stations set up in the Innovation quad and pay $2.00 to find out who they are most compatible with at Samo. Each person will be matched with 15 people in their grade, 10 people from all other grades, five people who are the most opposite from you and two mystery matches. Along with the matches, students can read about their birthday and horoscope.
“There is also fun trivia on your results that tell you things like what celebrity you have the same horoscope as you,” an ASB Instagram post promoting Matchomatics said.
While the purpose of the Matchomatics may be to match potential romantic partners, the survey also appeals to those who aren’t looking for a romantic relationship and simply want a new connection at Samo.
“[Matchomatics] connects you with new people or helps you find new things in common with people you already know,” Sabbe said.
This way, Matchomatics benefits all students, whether they are looking for that special person, want to make new friends or just want to read insightful trivia about their birthday. ASB’s activities for Valentine’s day reach beyond Matchomatics; students can also buy Valentine’s Day Grams to be given to their significant other or friend on Valentine’s day.
